Healthy living advice for people in Exeter

People in Exeter are being helped to get healthy through free, confidential, one-to-one clinics run by NHS Devon.

A new healthy lifestyle clinic has been launched at Exwick Community Centre and will be held every Friday between 10am and 12pm. The same service is also offered at Wonford Community Centre on Thursdays between 9am and 12pm.

All the clinics are run by NHS Devon's health trainers, and are open to everyone over 16 on an appointment basis.

Health trainers are employed across England by the NHS as part of the Government strategy to prevent ill health and promote healthy lifestyles.

Sarah Leggatt, NHS Devon's health trainer in Exeter, said: "If you are 16 years or over and are looking to become more active, want to eat a healthier diet, reduce your alcohol consumption or stop smoking, then our team of health trainers can help.

"We work alongside other health professionals to offer a flexible and accessible service to the community.

"We are here to help you make positive changes in your life and to support you in working towards a healthier lifestyle.

"We run one-to-one clinics where we help people to develop a personal health plan and offer a six to eight week period of support and advice to help you achieve your goals.

"Two examples of feedback on the health trainer service are as follows:

"It is an excellent service and has given me confidence in myself, determination to continue and happiness which will change my family's life."

"It is useful to have someone confirm my thoughts and behaviour and talk about change rather than lecture me. Having a friendly health trainer has been great."
