Make A Difference

National Mind is launching a campaign to improve access to talking therapies. Their campaign will call for people to have access to a wide range of evidence-based talking therapies within 28 days of requesting referral.
Mind are therefore looking for people to share their stories of talking therapies and would like to hear from people who have experienced long waiting lists, have been totally unable to access talking therapies or have wanted non-CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) therapies but been unable to get them. They also want to hear from people who have had a good experience of any form of talking therapy. If you are happy to share your story and would like to take part in the campaign please contact Mariam Kemple at m.kemple@mind.org.uk Read more here

Become a Health Champion
April 2010 sees the beginning of the ‘Healthy Town' project in Ilfracombe and the surrounding area. The Healthy Town Project will recruit 20 Community Health Champions within the Transform Project Area. These volunteers will participate in a broad training program which will equip them to undertake a number of different roles.

What will the community Health Champion do?

Develop an understanding of the health issues facing the community. Undertake an initial 6 week training programme to improve knowledge of health issues, support services and preventative measures. Act as a ‘street rep' helping people to access services. Assist with engaging the community in Healthy Town Action days. Help the community to become fully involved in the Healthy Town Year and encourage maximum participation. Undertake accredited training to develop skills in the realm of Pubic Health. Promote and recruit new volunteers.

Represent the community on the Devon PCT Health Board and with LINk Devon
